Definitely not my favorite park but is my husband Steve's #1! So I am putting together a quick write up of the fun we have while visiting Animal Kingdom.
Tip: To feel really connected with this park and the animals watch Magic of Disney's Animal Kingdom on Disney+. It's a few series that gives you the "behind the scenes". I really enjoyed the series and can't wait to go back to see the animals again.
Ok lets begin...As you enter the park cross over the bridge. Take a picture with a family from one of the photographers. Its a cute spot and memorable one!
Then on the right hand side you will see the Wilderness Explorers. Its really cute even for all ages. They pledge in the children (and dads) then you follow the map and learn as you explore. We usually follow the map left to right...heading towards Africa and starting with the flamingos.
BUT before the exploring begins hit up It’s a Bugs Life Show. It’s quite hilarious! The show is inside the tree. And there is a Wilderness Explorer spot on the way out. It can be scary for kids under 5. Then head to the left to see the flamingos.
While checking out the flamingos look for the kangaroo and the lappet-faced vultures near the Tree of Life!
Let's eat...I personally love eating in Africa! Get the skewers and rice. It’s a Full meal and can serve 2 people. We usually get one adult meal to share between the two little kids. There is an amazing bakery right there as well and a great shop. They usually do henna tattoos and play tons of live music. You can feel the culture!
All Disney park lines are 10-15 minutes less than what is published. Disney's way to under promise and over deliver. The Safari which is in Africa is a moving walking line. We will usually jump in line if it’s 35 minutes or less. If it’s over that amount for the time you are there then I suggest you doing the Apes/ Monkey walk which is right next to it. There is no wait and it’s really amazing! Also if you watch the Magic of Disney's Animal Kingdom then you will be able to see the Ape family in person!
We also love taking the train to the Rafiki Island. There’s a petting zoo there and some really cool exhibits. If you get there early enough you can see surgeries and the animal visits through the viewing glass. I have yet to see one but decided next visit we are going to head straight to the island. A lot of the surgeries and visits are documented on the series I suggested as well.
Leaving Africa...Keep moving around the circle on the map towards Mount Everest ride. If you like roller coasters Everest is the best! My kids can ride this ride over and over again....I think the records is 7 times in a row! There are awesome margaritas over there too. You’ll find bathrooms right before you see the bar on the left-hand side. There is the kite show across from the Everest ride which we found quite magical. You do not need a reserve spots. Literally show up right before the show and you can enjoy it. We usually grab an adult beverage by Everest before the show. In fact, sit towards the rear by the high top so you can escape once it’s over.
Heading towards Dino Land...OK as you continue to head right on the map towards Dino land. There is a cute little dinosaur/Dumbo ride that the kids might like. We do love the Dinosaur ride but it’s kind of scary however my six-year-old does ride it despite us forcing him to go on it. It’s not roller coaster. It’s all car-based but lots of dinosaurs jumping at you in a dark environment
Next you will see the Dino Fossil area... It’s kind of a lost spot for the kids to adventure, which I don’t care for, however it’s a good time killer. OK next step is to head towards the center of the park and then go to Pandora. Pandora is really cool at night! It is still cool during the daytime however if you can see it at night that would be amazing. If you can buy one of the lightnings to ride the ride that would be awesome but usually weights are quite long. Food options over there, I feel are below par so I wouldn’t spend the money. When they bring face painting back… That’s gonna be a huge hit! Flight of the Avatar is by far one of the coolest virtual rides we have ever been on...ever. The other Pandora ride via boat is very cool but nothing compares to the virtual avatar ride. The shops are usually pretty amazing on the way out as well as watching the tree.
As you leave for the park to close you will see how easy it is to enter and leave! Hope you enjoyed your visit!
